Epithelial cells could be confused with Entamoeba trophozoites.

Note that the ratio of the nucleus to the cytoplasm is too large and the central karyosome is not quite prominent or is missing.

These squamous epithelial cells are derived from the anal mucosa.

The nucleus is refractile and large. The cytoplasm is smooth and the cell border is distinct.

They may be confused with amoebic trophozoites.
