Tinea caused by Microsporum canis
A 20 year old man with a long-standing history of eczema presents with an enlarging plaque on the right cheek. There is a young kitten in the household that often sleeps on his bed. His family physician correctly diagnosed tinea but prescribed kenacomb (a steroid, antibiotic antimonilial combination product) and the lesion continued to expand.

Culture grew Microsporum canis.

The patient was treated with a combination of oral terbinafine and topical nzoral and cleared after 6 weeks of therapy.
